Lips are left unprotected during winter.
We’re in the middle of winter and wearing layers of clothing and accessories like gloves and beanies for additional warmth. We find ways to cover our bodies but there’s one area we can’t cover – our face – especially our lips.
The skin on our lips is the very thin with no oil glands to naturally hydrate them – leaving it more vulnerable.
Many people lick their lips as an attempt to moisturize them. If you’re one of those people STOP right now! After the saliva dries, you’re back to licking your lips again. Doing this repeatedly eventually leaves your lips dry and sensitive.
Effective ways to keep your lips soft and moisturized:
Exfoliate your lips once a week using a sugar scrub. Simply add a drop of olive in a teaspoon of sugar and rub gently onto your lips.
Stay hydrated. We all know the benefits of drinking at least 2 litres of water a day.
Prefer to use natural products? Honey or coconut are your best bet.
One of the most popular ways to protect your lips is lip balm. When choosing one look out for ones with Vitamin E and sunscreen. Don’t forget to apply lip balm to before you go to bed.
Then there’s good old petroleum jelly – it helps to heal dry lips and as well as protecting your lips at the same time.
Swap matte lipsticks for moisturizing lipstick – matte lipstick looks terrible applied to cracked lips and it dries out your lips.
